«For the vlogging course, we’ll have some field trips for filming, tons of editing, branding and some masterclasses. Students will develop their own look and feel for their channel and videos. I really hope that my students will go on to develop their channels after they’re finished with me for 3 weeks. But I think we’ll uncover what they like to film. That’s why I’m taking them to some interesting places so that they can film their reactions to what they’re doing and what they’re seeing. For example hiring 20 bikes in Gorky Park and cycling around the park — that’s something we can film doing and then come back with some really nice footage to edit.

So it’s not only about sitting at the computer — you should be spending time outside doing cool stuff. When you start vlogging, you do more interesting things because you want to show that you push the boundaries.

I think the rules of a successful video blog are:

1) Don’t do it to become famous; do it because you enjoy doing it
2) Make sure it doesn’t take all of your time
3) When you’re out and you’re filming try to remember what you’re doing, don’t do things just for filming because you’ll miss the moment.
4) Develop your own style and be yourself (You can take inspiration from other vloggers but it is more interesting to be yourself)
5) Edit your life (Show the world only what you want them to see)
6) Have a plan and be consistent (Create a plan for making and posting video content and stick to it. Subscribers will more likely follow you if you post videos at the same time every week)
7) Create interesting, fun and high quality content.
8) Create and develop your own personal brand (for your videos and your channel, as well as other social media platforms)
9) Keep it short (People have short attention so keep it short and punchy)
10) Collaborate (Work with other friends and youtubers. It’s fun to work together and you can swap some subscribers)».
