«The beginning of my concept was from the question “How can a product solve Reunification of Family Relationship?” As I pondered about what is really impeding family time in Korea is the conventional tradition of working places. One of the biggest issue with workers in Korea, Japan, and China is that workers cannot leave the working space before their boss has left even when their work is done. This will obviously lead to workers’ loss of family time or even dinner. There are some attempts to solve this issue. Many big companies in Korea began the service called “Family Day” or “Leaving-the-Office-Announcement” to encourage workers to leave the office without caring about what the boss will tell them the next day, since it is official movement. However, I began to think “Can a product encourage people to leave the office freely when their work is done?”

This is how I came up with my product “Conneggtion.” As an attempt to trigger solution of this problem, I came up with this emotional and interactive method. This egg that represents the worker himself and “rebirth” is the official alarm that lights up at official leaving time (usually 6~7pm) to give permission to workers to leave when their work is done. As workers put the egg back onto the nest, the time and date is recorded onto digital registration. More importantly, this action represents that workers need to rest at home and recharge their energy, just like how the egg is charged on the nest over night.

Conneggtion interactively represents workers and encourages them to understand the balanced value of family and work. If workers know the real value of life, they will work much more efficiently, productively, and responsibly during the working time to gain the right to spend sufficient time with family after work. My wish is that this movement will awake the future workers and companies of Korea what really is the reason for working and that it is possible to change».
