In the nineties he made contact with the director Ken Loach and they have been working in close collaboration ever since. He has written the screenplays for 12 full length feature films, and two shorts, directed by Ken Loach: including Sweet Sixteen (2002) – winner of Best Original Screenplay at Cannes, The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) – winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes and It’s A Free World (2007) – winner of Best Original Screenplay at Venice Film Festival. He also wrote the script for I Daniel Blake which won the Palme d'Or in 2016.
He wrote the screenplay for El Olivo (The Olive Tree, 2015) and Tambien La Lluvia (Even the Rain), both directed by Iciar Bollain, which won the Audience Award at the Berlin Festival in 2010, and was short listed for an Oscar.
During his talk Paul will share his experience as a screenwriter, explain how to turn an inspiring story into a successful script and speak about his most recent, as well as most favourite, works.
