April is when spring really takes hold in our country. Each April, MARCH will invite people who are somehow related to the flourishing of architecture, for its future. This magazine/anthology in the form of lectures, discussions, workshops, and seminars will be called the “April Theses”.
The first of the April Theses will be dedicated to the architects who manage to find time, efforts and resources and combine the routine and the extraordinary in their activities, namely give their efforts to architectural dreams and utopias. We will discuss the dreams themselves as well as how the utopian as a form of systematic action requiring resources and attention can be developed given today’s busy and pragmatic professional environment.
A utopia as a specific modus operandi in research, project-making and creative activities seems to be devoid of any pragmatics and even stands contrary to it. It doesn’t require a client, a brief, doesn’t have to stick to a deadline, it cannot be assessed in terms of man-hours or square meters of project documentation. However, just like any other project, it demands time, efforts, and money. The need for utopian, or, as they now say, speculative designing is undoubted. What resources, methods of organizing work process, what practices are used by the specialists who deal with utopias?
Several architects and teams working in this field will talk about this in a series of dialogues. Each event will feature two architects or teams of architects with short abstracts. After their presentation, a discussion will take place in which the public is welcome to actively participate.
The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 17, at 19:00. Our guests will be Megabudka and Egor Orlov, Anna Andronova and Alisa Silantieva.
The guests of the second meeting will be KUP and Darya Nasonova. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 23, at 19:00.
CitizenStudio partners Daniil Nikishin and Mikhail Beilin, as well as Alyona Shlyakhova (Dvorulitsa) will conclude the first series of meetings on Thursday, April 25, at 19:00.
