From June 26 to August 21, MARCH Architecture School will host MARShow, exhibition of students’ works. The school will present some of the best works dine by students of all years of BA and MA programmes, following the tradition of annual final exhibitions. MARShow allows to evaluate the results of 2018-2019 academic year and create a wholesome picture of architectural education.
The basis of the educational process at the School are briefs from design studios. The studio brief at MARCH is an specially designed programme in which invited tutors suggest problems and tasks for student projects. The brief is an alternative to the traditional architectural project, because it is based on premises that are outside the scope of a professional routine. Each brief is unique in content and methodology. This approach enables students to experiment and rethink the problems of the current architectural agenda. Thus, the school becomes open to the challenges of the modern world and positions itself in the center of intellectual activity.
The second MARShow annual exhibition puts a closer focus on the connection between a brief and the final project. Compared to last year, the exposition has expanded: it presents the results of each brief individually and occupies most of the School. The space of the latter became full-fledged participant in the exhibition, which ultimately determined its scenario.
The exhibition presents not only the final work, but also the results of intermediate tasks, sketches and diaries.
“Regardless of the form of cooperation, as a student, a graduate or a tutor, MARCH provides fine-tuning to the deeply important issues that constitute architecture in general cultural context. Learning, as well as teaching at the School implies total self-dedication and engagement. Likewise, this year's exhibition invites to plunge in the everyday and academic context of MARCH that reflects its being and provides a detailed account of studio briefs with their results”,
- curators of MARShow exhibition, graduates and tutors of MARCH, architects Darya Gerasimova and Grigory Tsebrenko.
“Annual exhibitions of students’ works are traditionally held in the summer in the world’s leading architectural schools, from Berlin to Los Angeles, and now MARCH joins this tradition. For the second time, the School hosts projects of all students of years of BA and MA programmes at the same time. For the School’s guests, both prospective students and our colleagues among architects, it is a great opportunity to figure out what kind of education MARCH represents, to discuss the outcomes of the academic year and the plans for the future”,— MARCH Director, architect Nikita Tokarev
