Work «Rise of the Machines» of BA (Hons) Fine Art graduate Arina Efanova entered the competition at Paris Festival for Different and Experimental Cinema that will take place in Paris from 2 till 13 October.
Paris Festival for Different and Experimental Cinema is an annual event, organised by the team of Collectif Jeune Cinéma with the support of the National cinema centre and the government of Ile-de-France. The festival promotes visual experimental practices in video and cinema and this year is dedicated to feminist and queer films. The international competition includes 43 works from 33 countries. The competition received over 1600 works in total.
Arina’s work is a video installation that transfers the viewer into the place where Ekaterina Andreeva traditionally opens TV news programme «Vremya». The main character of the piece introduces the history of womankind, drawing the line from goddesses, queens, witches to herself — a female cyborg. The sub-narrative is built around two constructed female archetypes sharing common experience of the oppressed and later fuse together in the figure of an empowered woman. The main character’s poetry is the result of redefining the notion of love. Love becomes the key to the constitution of subjectivity and the basis of the new language order.
On the last day of the festival, 13 October, the jury will select 5 best works.
