The MARCH Architecture School and the JAF Rus company with the support of the Drevolution festival practicum call a competition for grants to study Contemporary Wooden Architecture under an additional education programme.
To take part in the competition, the applicants should submit a project on the subject of “Door”. The contestants are to formulate a concept which should consist of a graphic and an orthographic section. The door can be presented as an architectural detail, functional necessity or philosophical phenomenon.
The application procedure is as follows:
- fill in an application form on the MARCH site, stating that you are taking part in the competition for grants as additional information
- formulate your concept: show the door graphically and write a small covering letter about why this is your idea of a door into wooden architecture;
- e-mail your work to [email protected] by 30 September, marking “Door. Name and Surname” in the letter subject.
The authors of three most interesting works, according to the jury, will get a chance to take the course at a 30% discount on the tuition cost.*
The competition jury will include MARCH director Nikita Tokarev, JAF Rus director Vladimir Ikonnikov, the architects Vladimir Kuzmin and Nikolai Belousov and the Drevolution festival practicum producer Olga Starkova.
*The jury reserves the right to make changes in the competition and award terms.

“CONTEMPORARY WOODEN ARCHITECTURE” PROGRAMMEThe Contemporary Wooden Architecture crush course PRO has been devised by MARCH jointly with Assotsiatsiya Derevyannogo Domostroyeniya with the support of the Cherepovets city administration and the Drevolution festival practicum with the aim of studying and exploring the potential of wood in contemporary architecture with due account for the Russian market and regulatory base realities. The course gives students practical knowledge of the potential of wooden construction industrial technologies, including CLT panels and LVL beams, that go far beyond the traditional log house or frame. Classes include lectures by recognised experts in wooden construction, visits to signature projects and leading enterprises, discussions, project-oriented classes and presentations. A multiple-family residential house project has been chosen for a practical assignment.
