In the beginning of November Professional Practice Talk with guest speakers from different creative industries was organised for students of Foundation Art & Design. Professional Practice Talk is a series of lectures that familiarize student with the different areas of art and design.
"During Stage 1 of the Foundation Art & Design course, a wide range of professional artists and designers are invited to visit the course to speak about their work. Through this series of lectures students begin to understand what it is like to work in the contemporary art and design industry. Students develop an understanding of the different disciplines within art and design and the different demands and requirements of each field of practice. These talks help students make decisions about their future careers by informing their choice of specialist pathway and decision of which BA (Hons) programme to apply", — says Pamela McBain, tutor of Foundation Art & Design programme.
This year Professional Practice Talk speakers were: industrial designer Sergey Smirnov, architector and interior designer Olga Kuvshinskaya, jewellery designer Evgenia Balashova, a British artist Alex Farrar, photographer Fyodor Toshchev, founder of Le Kover Anna Stepanova, BHSAD graduates and founders of design bureau Orientir Alexey Sebyakin and Danil Vladimirov, illustrator Evgenia Barinova, founder and creative director of Snezhana NYC Snezhana Paderina, founders of Redneck Ware Ruslan Sherifzyanov and Mikhail Zhaglin.
Students also found these lectures useful. "It is important to see actual exmples of people working in this industry. These lectures help us find our future career path", — says Valery Gubanova, student of Foundation Art & Design. " I really liked the lecture by Sergey Smirnov", — says Alexandra Kovalchuk. — "I am more interested in fine art than design, so it was remarkable to see a product-design talk turn out to be so fascinating".
