During their studies Moscow Film School students learn how to create both self-directed, and client-directed projects. The latter involve working to a particular brief in clearly-defined conditions, set by the client. The aim of such an approach is to create a scenario as close to real industry conditions as possible.
The third semester students programme for the Directing, Producing, Cinematography and Production design faculties includes work on a TV series project. This year, students received three briefs from the companies"Prior" and "AVK production". The students have to go through a full cycle of development and production of a series of teasers and pilots, which also involves the students of other faculties, including: sound engineers, editors, actors, makeup artists.
The educational goal of the project is to teach the specifics of television series production.
"Working with an industry brief is one of the unique advantages of studying in MFS," , says Ekaterina Cherkes-zade, director of the Moscow Film School. "Students not only develop their own stories, but have the opportunity to work in teams with real clients — film companies and production studios — mastering the full cycle of production of content for a given format in accordance with the requirements of the industry. Apart from the vast experience and useful connections gained, students have the opportunity to add to their portfolio projects that are planned to be launched on air. "
The work of the students was supervised by the School's teaching staff: the director Oleg Strom, camera operator Eugene Korzhenkov, producer Dmitry Shutko and production designer Addis Gadzhiev. From the project partners' side, representatives of production studios included the president of "Prior", Rodion Pavlyuchik and the founders of the company "AVK production" Elena Kotunova and Olga Volodina.
The student teams have already passed the pre-production stage and presented to the course curators the final directorial specifications, the results of actor castings, presented their final proposed outcomes (sketches of scenery, costumes, make-up tests), colour and lighting solutions, developed storyboards with key scenes, showed their top plans, prepared audio ideas, technical provisions for the film shoots and so on. The first shoots have also begun. The project will be completed in February.
Our Project Partners
The president of the group of companies "Prior" — Rodion Pavlyuchik
"All of us at the Association of Film and Television Producers are well aware of how essential new young talent is to contempoary film and TV. Therefore, "Prior" is delighted to collaborate with the Moscow Film School. This cooperation has proved mutually beneficial: the students have an opportunity before the end of their studies to try their hand at real commercial projects, and we are able to meet with talented and promising young people who are very likely to expect a bright future. We hope to continue working together with MFS."
Elena Kotunova, "AVK production"
"We are enthusiastically involved in a joint project with Moscow Film School. For us it is an opportunity to see several directorial concepts of new ideas and observe young, up-and-coming creative personnel. We are a production company, and we believe that it is also important to ensure that young directors are not only creative, but also prepared for the realities of modern production. It should be noted in our work with MFS students we do not offer any concessions for their age nor their lack of experience, and the work of the creative groups is taken very seriously. Easpecially taking this into account, the students have done an excellent job!"
