On February 17, students of BA (Hons) Product and Industrial Design programme visited the “Kazimir Makevich. Not just the Black Square” exhibition. We thank the administration of the VDNH for kindly organizing the visit and the tour. At the exhibition, the students had the chance to discover the multi-faceted nature of Malevich’s talent, to trace the evolution of his artistic thinking, starting from the paintings of the early period and all the way through to his suprematist compositions and realistic portraits.
“The exhibition enabled the students to see the master’s works aside from the most popular ones. The guys studied drafts and sketches, and saw the whole long way to the completion of works. Such experience is always extremely interesting for the students and incredibly useful for beginners in the profession, because it allows them to see the creative process of an established master”, said Daniel Zakharyan, tutor of the programme who accompanied the students.
Besides the abstract paintings, the exhibition features sketches for futuristic installation “Victory over the Sun”, a series of architectonic objects reflecting Malevich’s spatial thinking, designs samples for Severny cologne bottles, posters and postcards, as well as photogravures. This vast spectrum of works, techniques and documentary materials about the life and the personality of the great master can inspire creative people to create something truly new, progressive and uncompromising.
“Kazimir Makevich. Not just the Black Square” exhibition was ranked amongst the top 33 events of the past year, placing first. The BHSAD expresses deep gratitude to the administration of the VDNH for providing the students with the opportunity to see this unique collection of works.
