An exhibition by students and graduates of the BA (Hons) Fashion programme opens at Na Shabolovke gallery on April 28th. The display will feature graphic garments made by designers as part of the Black Project, including photos, sketchbooks, installations, as well as a short fashion-movie produced in cooperation with the students of the Moscow Film School.
The Black List exhibition is designed to demonstrate various meanings and interpretations of the black color that can be embodied in a small piece of fabric: from the murky black of darkness and chaos to a reserved and classic black or a chic, powerful and romantic black color. What is hidden behind this ambiguous color? What messages does it carry? What does it appeal to and how is it transformed in garments? The exhibition provides monochrome answers to these questions.
The curator of this exhibition is Lyudmila Alyabyeva, editor in chief of Fashion Theory: Clothes, Body, Culture magazine, head of Theory and History of Fashion MA programme at the Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow, and a tutor at BA (Hons) Fashion programme.
