This year, Baikal Educational Forum, the nationwide discussion platform, was held for the seventh time. The topic of the 2017 event was “Quality of education: dialogue with the society”. Five roundtable discussions were set up to debate important issues such as ways to modernize study processes, infrastructure, impact of digital technologies, and international context. Most discussions took place behind closed door, except for ours.
Britanka was the only speaker invited to hold events ‘for everyone’, so everyone was looking forward to see us. By everyone we mean students as well as specialists. Four employees of the School held a series of lectures and workshops at the East Siberian Institute of Culture:
Fedor Raschevsky, lead tutor of the Design of public spaces programme;
Claudia Doms, tutor of the BA (Hons) Graphic Design programme;
Vladimir Tilinin and Anna Chernykh, lead tutors of the Fashion Design. Basic course programme.
They spoke about clothes, architecture and graphics, about their bureaus, about where the design is headed and what the main current trends are. Fedor Raschevsky went over some examples of working spaces, Vladimir Tilinin and Anna Chernykh talked about new visual and technological standards in fashion design, and Claudia Doms explained how they teach graphic design in Europe and in Britanka.
The audience had an opportunity to acquire new knowledge and got new topics to reflect on, as well as contacts from the professional community. As for us, we got a chance to talk to talented young people from the other side of the Urals, and a chance to experience the famous Siberian hospitality. They showed us all the most interesting sites in Ulan-Ude and its environs, including datsans, Buddhist temples, and the beauty of Lake Baikal, for which we are very grateful to the organizers of the forum.
