Universal University to develop creative economy of Yakutia together with SAIAC and “Saybiam”

Universal University together with the State Arctic Institute of Art and Culture (SAIAC) and jewellery cluster “Saybiam” launches summer “Jewellery design” course that will last from 4 June to 25 August in Yakutia.

The structure of the summer course is based on the CPD programme “Jewellery design” at BHSAD and consists of theoretical and practical classes. During the course students will develop the concept of their own jewellery brand, as well as its promotion strategy, and create their own designs.

Jewellery designer and founder of Alchemia Jewellery Igor Komov will be the course leader. He will talk about different aspects of jewellery design and consult students during different stages of their projects. Other course tutors will be Ekaterina Komova, Olga Yakusheva, Daria Yadernaya and Nadezhda Donskikh.

“One of our main goals is to prepare qualified specialists that are familiar with the modern jewellery design and production cycle and can apply their knowledge when working on real projects,” — says Igor Komov.

The idea of launching a jewellery design course was inspired by the need of developing creative economy in the region. Having local talent capable of starting and promoting their own jewellery brand will help boosting economic growth of the region.

“We can change the situation for the better by introducing different educational programmes in the field of creative industries — developing local designers and creative specialists will help Yakutia’s jewellery industry reach a completely different level and attract investment,” — says director of Universal University and the British Higher School of Art and Design Ekaterina Cherkes-Zade.

The launch of “Jewellery design” programme will be the first step in the collaboration. In the future Universal University also plans to organise courses on IT, cinema and game development.
