On January 19th, Surface exhibition by graduates of BSHAD programmes BA (Hons) Fine Art and BA (Hons) Photography opened at a new exhibition space Art Korobka. The project is effectively a research into current trends in development of Millennial generation society.

Artists born in the 90s reflect in their works on peculiarities of relationships in the digital age, on limits for personal freedom and self-identification in society.

SURFACE is a spatial metaphor used by each author is an instrument for search of common point between the future and the past, the inner and the social. Creative process serves to overcome the borderline between two phases, the surrounding reality and the one created by an artist.

The works have common topics. Reflection on the issues of what is permitted, gender differences, borders between the beautiful and the ugly through the use of people’s skin (Ksenia Latysheva, Yaroslava Bochenina and Stasya Kleishmidt).

The authors explore the limits of individuals in today’s globalizing world (Sofia Latysheva, Maksim Ivanov and Sonya Ivanova).

A reflection on what events and images from our childhood impact the molding of personality and what stands behind our memories (Polina Tankilevich, Ekaterina Solodina).

Looking at a surface as a basis for creating new ideas and shapes. Searching for ways to develop urban space (Anna Shilova) and pigment as the artist’s top material, assuming a special, sacred meaning at the exhibition (Anna Rybakova).

Artists deliberate on the problem of personal self-identification, social roles and a barrier that separates a man from society (Maria Mikhailova, Dania 1 - 0 Rafael, Ilya Karev and Arina Kravchenko).

A study of perception of language and its functions as protector and guardian of national culture (Nataly Lakhtina).

The exhibition features photos, video art, paintings and installations done by young artists. There will also be workshops, open discussions with the authors as well as contests for children and visitors.
