ARTTEX — one of the leading Russian curtain, blind and interior decoration manufacturers — initiated a joint project with the British Higher School of Design. The brief required students from levels 5 and 6, BA (Hons) Illustration to design patterns inspired by Russian folk traditions that could later be manufactured as blinds or curtains. The students were instructed to use folk motifs as inspiration for their patterns, but at the same time, to avoid creating simple copies of existing traditional Russian designs. The participating students first conducted a study of the existing fabrics in ARTTEX's collection, and then began to develop their designs. Out of more than 30 works, ARTTEX selected 8 finalists. The winners were awarded cash prizes and their projects included in ARTTEX's portfolio exclusive fabric designs.
