— Why did you decide to study at the BHSAD? What did you do before?
— Initially the decision itself could have seemed spontaneous, however, as it turned out, this is not entirely true. When I was studying at the Plekhanov University, a number of people in my life mentioned the BHSAD, but all of this somehow went over my head. Later, after completing two years in a prestigious university, I finally and firmly decided to search for alternatives in the creative field. And the choice fell on the BHSAD.
— Are you currently working? If so, in what area and what do you do?
— Currently I am the head of the design department at the Samolet Development construction company. I have been working here for a year now. Prior to that, I worked as a leading specialist (designer) at the Moscow Metro, at MosgortransNIIprojekt, as well as at the Shandesign design studio. Among other things, for two years now I have been leading independent projects (industrial design, graphic design, advertising) under the ARINE ATELIER brand.
Professional projects, including those I worked in during my studies, turned out to be very diverse and non-trivial. Every project was a new challenge for me, a continued study of related fields, constant analysis of everything and everyone.
— What are you proud of in this job? Do you like what you do? Does this align with your career plans that you made during your studies?
— At the moment, my main achievement probably is the project of a traffic light, which in 2 years managed to win at least 5 awards, both local and international, including prestigious ones, such as the A Design Award. There are other projects, some have not received such a pronounced resonance, some haven’t been published at all yet, but I have many plans. Regarding those, of course, everything went not as smooth as I hoped, and, probably, the ambitions still exceed the possibilities. As a student, you have certain illusions of an easy employment and subsequent career growth, but, of course, you have to sweat for it.
— What skills have you acquired at the BHSAD that are important for your current job?
— The BHSAD first of all gave me a very important skill of self-education and self-discipline. In real life you can’t wait for someone to remind you of anything or even suggest something. You need to do everything by yourself, regardless of the number of tasks and deadlines.
— What advice would you give to those who are just starting their career in your field?
— I wish everyone to set the highest possible goals and strive to turn this world around. I wish you not to lose your energy and ambition to create things that are unlike anything created before and that will fascinate the minds of others with their genius and simplicity.
