THE POST:
We are seeking a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer to make a significant contribution to an internationally facing Foundation Art & Design programme within a dynamic Art School in the centre of Moscow.Working in close partnership with the University of Hertfordshire who validate our undergraduate provision, the British Higher School of Art & Design has been at the forefront of further, higher and professional creative industries education in Russia for the past 17 years. Recognised as a leader within Russia, we are now establishing an international reputation as a provider of high quality, innovative and creative undergraduate and pre-degree Art & Design programmes.
The successful candidate will lead our 3D & Spatial Design pathway and contribute as part of a team to all aspects of the Foundation in Art & Design programme and subject area. There is also the potential to make contributions to our other programmes such as Pre-Foundation Art & Design, BA (Hons) Product & Industrial Design and/or BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design.
Foundation Art & Design was established shortly after the founding of the School in 2003. Currently it has pathways in Fine Art, Fashion and Textiles, 3D and Spatial Design and Communication Design, all of which retain an atmosphere and level of student work comparable to that of a UK Level 3/4 Foundation Art & Design programme.
It is one of the largest programmes at BHSAD and the only one of its kind in Russia. Typically there are yearly cohorts of around 160 full time students studying and working in dedicated studios and across shared 3D, printmaking, ceramics, fashion, photography, darkroom and digital workshops.
Learning, teaching and assessment is in English and knowledge of Russian language is not necessary for the post.
Moscow provides an environment saturated with opportunities for creatives which coupled with the school’s influence and industry contacts allows the programme access to a wealth of opportunities to provide an exceptional student experience. The role offers opportunities to make a significant contribution to the exciting Moscow design community.
The successful candidate will join a team of experienced art and design lecturers and subject specialists consisting of international and local full time and part time staff who together help to create a culturally rich and vibrant, creative environment.
Applicants will be ambitious and highly motivated, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as be team players with the ability to inspire, lead and manage students and staff.
This is a unique, exciting and important appointment which presents the postholder with the opportunity to play a key role in the overall development of the subject area within the school and the wider professional community.
Salary details: Monthly salary will be paid in the Russian Ruble equivalent of the GBP monthly salary rate. Russian Income Tax is set at a flat rate of 13%.
Additional benefits: The School provides visa support, medical insurance, relocation assistance, annual return flight, Russian language classes, research and scholarly activity allocation, 35 days annual leave in addition to mandatory Russian public holidays and university holiday closures.
Place of work: Moscow, Russia. The School is within an Arts district located close to the city centre being just one stop from Red Square and within close proximity to several metro lines.
Start Date: The intended start date is 1st September 2021 although due to disruption caused by the global pandemic, if appropriate we are able to consider a later start date, or to start with online/remote working as opposed to in-person/on-premises working.
