The New Manezh exhibition hall featured an exhibition «Bulgakov. Two biographies», which became the centerpiece of celebrations of the writer’s anniversary. Works by four graduates of BA (Hons) Illustration programme were created based of M.Bulgakov's writings and were shown among the exhibits.
The project’s curators from Bulgakov Museum gathered together more than 700 items: unique showpieces from archives and museum collections from Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, manuscripts, letters, drawings, scenery models, autographs, photographs and even documents from the secret police who spied upon the author of Master and Margarita and The Heart of a Dog.
BA (Hons) Illustration graduates Shary Santo, Darya Akhmetova, Maria Mikhailova and Ekaterina bakaleynik offered their interpretation of the master’s legacy.
Maria Mikhailova developed a lighting construction with letters that lit up certain ones, thus creating quotations from Bulgakov, curtailed to fit the tableau format.
Shari Santo introduced a series of works entitles Monsters. It is created based on monsters of sorts, who come into existence in the context of overlap between magical realism of Bulgakov, science fiction, social and domestic problems. All six collages refer to the Soviet propaganda and celebration of sculpture, war memorials from all over the former Soviet Union.
Showpieces from BHSAD students draw genuine interest from the visitors and were an ideal fit to the exhibition space alongside the original items from Bulgakov Museum.
